The Atonement: Salvation and Healing are one!
did you know…
The atonement has both salvation and healing within it. Essentially stating that salvation and healing took place at virtually the same time. Therefore if salvation is for today, then healing is as well. Jesus is the healing in the atonement. However, for many, even believers, the healing in the atonement has become secondary. WELL, after God gave this Word to my Pastor to teach, I beg to differ!
In Psalm 103 we see the True character of God.
103:3-5
Who pardons All your iniquities, Who heals All your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns your with lovingkindness and compassion; Who satisfies your years (mouth) with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
In these verses we see the the Lord pardons, heals, redeems (saves), gives love, kindness and compassion. If that is not enough he gives us His Word to renew our youth in our wisdom years. All of these things are in the act of the atonement! In verse 2 of Psalm 103 Isaiah describes the above verses as God’s benefits. Healing and salvation are provided in the same action here.
Isaiah 53: 4-6
Surely our grief He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our trangressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.
Again, within this Prophet’s picture of the atonement, salvation and healing are provided within. The healing and salvation are in the same thought here, very clearing.
More atonement scriptures that prove that healing was provided in the atonement:
Matthew 8:17
This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”
Mark 2: 1-5
The story of the paralytic man healed is what my Pastor calls ” The Faith of Four Friends”. In this story there is no room where Jesus was in Capernaum. These four friends were determined to get the one friend healed by Jesus, so when they could not get to him they climbed onto the roof, cut out a hole and lowered the friend down to Jesus!
verse 5:
And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
You see, they went for healing, which was provided by Jesus. At the same time salvation was provided! Jesus said the mans sins were forgiven.
Faith moves the atonement, and when faith moves salvation and healing are automatic. The atonement provided everything we needed to fulfill the Great Commission.
To quote my Pastor:
Get over the method and get into the provision!
