Word Devotion: Rebuke

  • I have been using the word rebuke of late. Rebuking things or thoughts in my life that are contrary to the Word of God. The really and mildly negative things that have come around of late. So I thought I should know what the word really means, by itself, not just by how I have heard the word used by others.I find that others often may not understand the definition of a word. They, like many of us, find the definition within the context that we hear a word used. We all do this, from time to time. Bad habit in my life.

Rebuke: To check, silence, or put down, with reproof; to restrain by expression of disapprobation; to reprehend sharply and summarily; to chide; to reprove; to admonish. A direct and pointed reproof; a reprimand; also, chastisement; punishment.

In my time in the 3rd paragraph of Colossians 1, I have found that I do not feel strenghtened or empowered, often. I realize I frequently feel weak and vulnerable. I don’t remember being so very aware of this. It must have been so engrained that I ignored it. It’s amazing how our minds work…right!

So in my anger at my weakness I have been rebuking these negative thoughts and feelings that have been flooding my spirit. And flood is the correct term here, for me! A constant and rapid flow of negativity that is attempting to overtake me.
`satan is vigilant in trying to steal the revelations we receive within us from God. Therefore we must be more vigilant in rebuking his attempts at stealing our joy.

Colossians 1:11

“We also pray that you [me and you] will be strengthened with His glorious power [God's POWER] so that you [me and you] will have ALL the patience and endurance you [you and me] need. May you [you and me] be filled with JOY,”

Remember:

The bible also says that the JOY of the LORD is our strength. We cannot be strengthened without this JOY! I am attempting to tap into it right now. I actively rebuke these thoughts, taking them captive and proving them to the Word of God.

Hint:

If it causes a painful, negative ache in your heart and spirit, take it captive! It is not from God, cast it down, rebuke it and send the thought, that other person’s behavior or words to the pit where they originated.

Here’s to the Good Fight of Faith!

Blessings All!
